Wet Your Winter Whistle with MINT + MIRTH.

I've never been to Portland, Oregan before but you better believe I'll be hunting down Jennelle and Joni of Mint + Mirth Bartending next time I'm South of the border. Inspired by the brrr-eautiful winter wedding shot by Aniko Productions, these "purveyors of good times" are offering Refinery readers some cozy drink recipes to cuddle up to this holiday season. (cocktail photo credit: Mai Camera Photography).

Winter weddings are as good as it gets.  Snowy, cozy details, rosy cheeks, bright eyes, fireplace photo shoots, skating and sledding families, stomping around in warm Pendleton blankets…

These delicious cocktails from Mint + Mirth Bartending put a wintery spin on elegant, classic cocktails.  Featuring fresh clementines, fennel, meyer lemons, and other seasonal winter produce, they are sure to jumpstart your winter wedding celebrations and holiday parties.

These drinks also pair perfectly with winter florals such as ranunculus, cotton, thistle, and winter berries.

1 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice
      ½ oz. Bee Local honey

      Ice cubes

Stir ingredients in a mixing glass, strain into a chilled coupe glass, and garnish with a cherry.

      12 cinnamon sticks
      18 whole cloves
      6 whole allspice
6 cups Below Deck Spiced Rum
      whipped cream

Simmer juice and spices in a large pot for 10 minutes.  Ladle into large mugs and add 3 oz. of Below Deck Spiced Rum to each mug.  Garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon stick.

IN THE ISSUE: Twisting Sweet Traditions

There's little I enjoy more than baked goods or magazine recipes for baked goods - like the one found on page 128 in Issue IV - that call for ingredients I've actually heard of AND have on hand. Thank you for that Tessa of Style Sweet CA!

This collaboration between Crystal Marie Sing Photography and Tessa of Style Sweet CA is one photo shoot I would've died to be part of. Rumour has it the "models" got eaten at the end (and we're not talking about the mosquitoes getting to them).

With names like Cranberry Orange Clove Cake and Champagne Buttercream, Lightened Fruit Cake with Mascarpone Frosting and Gingerbread Cake with Caramel Toffee Crunch, they were asking to get forked.

Off to preheat my oven to 350 degrees.

Inspired // Evergreens

Today's the day! The Knol family Christmas tree is going up and I'm leaving you with some winter wedding inspiration to go with your roasting chestnuts and open fires.

It may be the Prince George in me or the wannabe tree planter (who lasted a whopping 3 days on the block) but I sure do love conifers. Deciduous trees got nothing on my favourite cone bearers... cedar, fir, spruce, hemlock...

I just hope pine beetles stop munching them and that this mood board gets you in the mood to host a snowy celebration of your own.

On a side note: Have you ever tasted roasted chestnuts? I don't know what the hype's all about, they taste a bit like bitter mashed potatoes but crunchy. Not a fan.

Stay warm friends,

IN THE ISSUE: All Dressed In White

White is the very definition of timeless (GAP doesn't call it a 'classic white tee' for nothing) and Issue IV features pages of white Pinspiration that we're hoping to see more of in 2014 (and beyond). Sparkly headpieces, puppies of honour, woodland ferns, understated cakes... it's pure snowy white goodness  captured by the talented duo, Shari + Mike Photographers.
