IN THE ISSUE: 'Sweet + Salty' Captured by Blair Marie Photography

When Blair dropped us an email a few months back to see if we would be interested in doing some collaborations, we instantly jumped at the opportunity! We have loved following this up and coming Calgarian Photographer, and Blair Marie Photography is quickly making waves in the indie wedding photography crowd in central Canada.

Our mission for Blair was to capture a simple and sweet Valentines "at home" date that any couple could execute. Not only that, we wanted to show that this could be done at any time of year, and that any night is a great excuse for a dinner date for two.

Head on over to the newest issue to see how you can make something sweet, gift & give something to the one you love, and share an intimate night in!

From Chelsey & Dene, at Best Day Ever Creative Events:

We’re sure most of you can relate to having to embrace a bridesmaid look that just isn’t quite you. You don’t hate it (ok, maybe you do), but the dress just doesn’t quite flatter your figure and definitely doesn’t fall in line with your personal style. No offense brides, we know it’s your day and you should have the ultimate say, but wouldn’t you rather know that your girls not only look, but also feel amazing standing up there next to you?

Of course, there’s always the fear that if each bridesmaid wears a different dress, different jewelry and carries a slightly different bouquet, the wedding party isn’t going to look like they are part of the same wedding. That is simply not the case!

It’s important to incorporate a few common elements so that the looks do come together in a really beautiful and cohesive way. Unify the bridesmaids with your colour palette of choice, a consistent makeup look and bouquets that use similar blooms while still allowing your girls’ personal styles and personalities to shine through.

Our line-up of ladies included the ‘girl next door’, ‘rocker’, ‘boho beauty’, ‘free spirit’ and ‘glam girl’. With a colour palette of cobalt and navy blues, we visited local bridal shops and fashion boutiques on the hunt for dresses that complimented each girl and hinted at their unique individual styles. And, we didn’t stop at attire; what really brings these looks full circle is tying in jewelry selection, floral bouquets flawlessly designed by The Flower Factory and the perfect hair and unifying makeup (which in this case featured a bold oxblood lip). A matching oxblood nail polish from lacc, found at Shut Up I Love This, was a natural choice, not only because the colour matched the lip perfectly, but because this pretty polish is also vegan and paraben free.

There’s no doubt that playing on each girl’s individual style and finding unique pieces from local boutiques around the city can all come together in a really amazing way. Here’s to doing things a little differently!
